It's not having what you want....

It's wanting what you've got!  With thanks to Sheryl Crow's Soak Up the Sun

I know I've been a bit moany and sad lately.  Been wallowing, and this was not helped by some of the articles about carers - written with the best of intentions I know - to promote National Carers Week in June.  They suggest that carers are unappreciated and unsupported, depressed and despairing.  Is that how people view me?

Now I know that some carers have a really tough time indeed, but you know what?  My life isn't so bad.  At all.  So here are some of the things about being a full time carer that make me happy :
I see as much of my children as I want :D

I don't have to commute, except to appointments...
I can wear what I like.  And for the price of a 'good' suit, I can buy a whole wardrobe of clothes from Penneys.

I can work on my blog, with the excuse that I'm 'keeping my hand in', for when I manage to land the perfect job.
I can say I'm bored, tired, stressed out and depressed and people will empathise - a privilege not given to many people in paying jobs, such as teachers!

I am my own boss.

I have time to renew old friendships and make new ones.
See, I definitely want what I've got.   Hope you do too....

  3. Yep, there are always good things. I am happy with my lot too, aside from the occasional bout of jealousy of my husband because he gets a lunch break AND gets to eat sitting down:) I don't get jealous everyday though, just the odd day! Jen.

  4. I think this post is really deep, because they say you can only experience true happiness with being content with what you have got. In other words if you are constantly looking for something else you can't be happy because you are pinning your happiness on something that you don't have. But reports about carers are important as someone needs to stand up for them to ensure they are not taken for granted and appreciated. You could always start a campaign for the rights of carers .... to keep your hand in like?

  5. There are Penney's in Ireland? ;)

Is the term SAHM used over there? You give the positives of being a stay-at-home-Mom, too.

Agreeing with Irish Mammy - if you are constantly...

Reflecting on positive aspects can grow positive feelings - just like negative thoughts can grow.

    Have wonderful weekend! Barbara

  6. I love what I've got and it's perfectly expressed in your blog here :) Things aren't always perfect. Some days are definitely harder then others, but there is nothing that could give me more joy then watching my babies grow up first hand. Great post. x

  12. Your list completely resonated with me as a SAHM. Sometimes I long for a hot cup of tea, but apart from that I wouldn't miss it for the world!

  14. So many people try and put others in a neat and tidy box... why? I like that you appreciate things most people look over.
