Staycation

Looking for blue sky?
It was a whirlwind of a week.  My brother and nephew breezed in last Friday, and life speeded up.  Summer made a brief appearance; out came the suncream and the shorts; farewell facebook, hello food festivals, parks and playgrounds.

Angel in the sun
New toys were tried.

Where's my kite?
There it is!
Old skills were tested.

Someone's grown..
There was also fixing, chatting, cooking, playing, bouncing, lots of eating of lovely food at home and out, walking, running, sleeping...well not much of that!  Staycations aren't so bad you know, we all had a great time.

And my special girl? Well she enjoyed every second, including her first ever picnic.  Who knew that mashed spuds stayed warm for so long?

Smiley :)

  1. Between my job and the pressures of the summer holidays I'm struggling to find enough time to write, even though I want to! Maybe my blog is coming to the ed of it's natural life, I'm not sure. I am also concerned that I will need to respect my son's privacy during his teenage years. Perhaps a private blog? This is also my space to record our lives as a family, hence posts like this, even though they may not be that interesting to anyone else, they are storing up memories ...

  2. I personally hope that you continue your journey with us as I have enjoyed sharing it with you even though I don't always check in with you and let you know. Reading about your family brings a smile to me but I do understand your quandary about your son and your privacy.

  3. No no no no NO!! It is NOT! You have tons to write about, I know you do. Apart from working it's school holidays and we've all less time to blog etc ;-) I have at least 4 half done posts in drafts and more in my head that may never see the light of day!

Looks like you're enjoying your staycation. Enjoy it all and drop in to tell us all about it when you can ;-)

  4. Don't you dare quit your blog...PLEASE! It's great to read about your family life. There is always less time for yourself during school holidays. Enjoy the remainder of it! :)

  6. It's the summer holidays! Of course you're stretched for time. I'd wait and see how you feel in September. And no one would shoot you if you decided to post only once a week or when you feel like it.
As for your staycation. it looks loads of fun. It's absolutely not boring to read. Rather it's inspirational to read about a fun holiday without all the expense and hassle of travelling. Friends to stay (even family :))adds the out of the ordinary factor needed for a good vacation.
About your son's privacy - I can't advise on that one but you don't have to say anything he'd disapprove of, in the same way that you are sensitive to Angel's privacy.
I hope you conrinue with the blog. Love Rachel. xxx

  8. Oops sorry everyone, I didn't mean to turn this into a needy post! Though thank you all for all the really lovely comments - I think I was having a little downer when I wrote that first comment...for reasons that I may blog about, again it depends on the privacy thing. Oddly enough I don't have to worry too much about Angel. She is not bothered about privacy at all and always gives permission for me to write about her, and now she is over 18, that's perfect. But my son is old enough to have some say, but too young to give informed consent, especially when I want to write about issues related to his aspergers, which I do!

  10. Gorgeous pictures and it looks like you had a fab time - shows you don't always need to go away on fancy holidays (even though the chance would be a fine thing eh?) :)

I understand your fears. I never write about my step son - it's not that I don't care of feel he's a part of the family, but I'm trying to be respectful of him, his mum and his dad (who I also don't write about too much). It's a difficult balance isn't it?

I hope that you do carry on writing, I just wouldn't feel the pressure. I sometimes go a week or more without blogging. I don't feel I have to - it's amazing how much more pleasant it becomes ok, except for when I write posts like today's ;)) xx

  11. It's lovely when that sun finally comes out and we feel it necessary to put sun cream on - makes you feel all summery!

  13. Looks like a great time was had by all.

I too am struggling to blog between caring for a baby and work and have wondered if it will end up slipping away from me. I can just about manage the odd blog post (although I had a long gap recently) but its keeping up with other blogs I love (like yours) that I'm struggling with more. I feel so out of the loop. Hopefully I'll find a happy balance soon.

Selfishly I really hope you continue as you know I love your blog...these posts too, they are still so interesting xx

  14. @Heather Lucas - yes I'm reading very few blogs right now, and I miss them, and the gaps between posts on here are getting bigger as half written posts clog up my dashboard. I hope you keep blogging too! For me, life should calm down a bit in September, and hopefully you'll find a balance soon too xx
