The most magical moment of day is...

Well what do you think?

Is it watching the dawn rays of sunlight light up the clouds with colour? Or do you just groan at the thought of the daily grind?

Perhaps a romantic sunset after a perfect summer's day?

Or a hearty meal with all the family gathered together around the table? Or are you just tired after all the preparations?

A hot shower on a cold day is great, but is it magical?

The thump of the front door as it closes after the last child has left for school?  But then you face the commute to the office, or the pile of mail on the dresser, or a sinkfull of breakfast bowls.

If you're a mum like me, and even though your kids are your whole world, that moment, that magical moment, is when their breathing slows, their faces relax, and you know you can finally creep out of their room and downstairs.  And breathe.

There's nothing like it.  It's the end of the day's journey. You might still be feeling a bit hyper or exhausted, but you've reached the destination safely and now perhaps there's a chance to relax.

I hadn't realised quite how much I'd missed it.  Until last night.  When, most unexpectedly, I found myself child free at 10.30 pm.  And I was still awake.

I crept back downstairs, put the telly and the fire back on, grabbed a glass of apple juice - no need for wine! - and just vegetated for an hour.  It felt like someone had unscrewed the iron band around my head and switched off the hamster wheel.

I was still feeling calm this morning.  Which was just as well....

When's the best moment of the day for you?

  1. I'm totally with you on the bedtime thing, though I'm a LOT luckier in respect!! Just reading about your day often wears me out!

But my absolute favourite part of the day is where I go into my daughter's room and she's all snu and either still asleep so that I have to wake her, or has been awake and is chatting happily in bed. She always smiles, says something really random and then gives me a cuddle as I pluck her out of bed. She's just always so warm and smells lovely and it really starts my day on a high (mushy mum!!!!!)x

  2. My DD is only 4 so I get what you've just described at 7.30. And yes, it is magical!

  3. I get that from about 9pm. Its blissful! I need that time in the evenings to be able to finally relax for a couple of hours before bed. Honestly I dread the boys getting older and me not being able to have that time! So I'm making the most of it while they're young. :) x

    1. Definitely make the most of it. Nome time as such tonight, aspie boy is skyping a friend and playing some game just across the coffee table, I'm going to have to make him go up any minute now...

  4. yes! The magic moment is when they are all asleep..funny though, the moment has been the same for years-but now it is for different reasons. It used to be "Hurrah! They are finally sleeping"..then "hurrah they sleep through the night!"..Now-I find myself like you..only I drink some coffee and just stare at nothing..clearing the day from my head..:))

    1. I can imagine! I know your morning routine with Jack is a lot more involved than what I do for Smiley :)

  6. I know just what you mean, we all need a little time out occasionally! I think I like my evenings best, when I put pjs on and tuck myself under the duvet to settle in front of a telly. Amy joins me most nights but that's okay because it's our quality time together.

  8. Sounds bliss, no kids and tucked up in front of the TV. I don't really have a magical moment of the day yet.... I am hoping to change that. :)

  10. Lovely sentiments and lovely post. What a wonderful surprise too... I hope there's many more. I know I can think of a magical moment other than the inviting trickling sound of wine pouring into a glass.... I just need to put my mind to it :-P
