It's okay

It's okay to feel angry.

It's okay to feel sad.

it's okay to feel resentful and bitter.

It's okay to feel upset.

It's okay to feel jealous and envious.

It's okay to feel overwhelmed.

It's okay to feel like running away.

It's okay to feel that you can't manage even one more day as a special needs parent.

It's okay to want to feel numb, to feel nothing at all.

It's okay to feel sorry for yourself, even if no-one wants to know.

Your feelings are okay.

What matters is how you deal with them.

That's what I tell my children.

I need to remember it too.

I need to remember that it's okay.

  1. I think thats something we all need to remember. It is ok not to be perky and happy all the time. As a special needs parent you go through more stress in a day than most people do in a month x

  5. I wish I could do more for you than just send love and hugs. Sounds like you need a bit of respite - can this be arranged? I know Smiley has been to a respite place before for a few days, is this still an option?

  8. Agree with all of the above. The blog is a great place to let some of those feelings out, when you can't or don't want to unload to your IRL family & friends. I hope that some respite for Smiley for a few days comes through for you, too. xo from NJ in the USA

  10. Such wise words. I'm going to remember this for those times I need to chat with my four year old about her feelings and how she deals with them. We've been having quite a few tantrums recently - I think partly due to new baby and partly due to feeling tired out from school. These words will be very useful in helping to explain about how we deal with those feelings. Thank you!
