You know we're getting quite serious about Netflix here these days? Shows and films are discussed, blogged about, and anticipated eagerly, while the TV pages gather dust on a shelf somewhere.
But to do anything properly, you need the right equipment. And with Christmas coming up, what better time to invest in a few gadgets that would help any family to get the most out of their Netflix subscription. So here's a few ideas to get you started.
1. Something to watch it on.
We were lucky enough to own several Netflix-friendly devices before we joined the StreamTeam - mobile phone, tablet and laptop. They are great for casual viewing in the house or on the train. For these, all you need to do is subscribe and download the app.
You don't need an iPhone or iPad either: For children, the Amazon Fire Kids Edition seems to be a good budget option, for adults you can find a good selection here.
If you're thinking of watching Netflix on your phone and buying a new one for Christmas, this is my selection of the best models around right now (from doing far too much research for my next purchase and I don't even know when that will happen). And Santa, if you're reading, I'll take any of these ;)
Apple iPhone 6s
Samsung Galaxy 6S
Sony Xperia Z5 (cheaper with a great camera)
Motorola Moto X Play
Huawei Ascend G7
OnePlus 2 (a premium phone at a mid price, just very hard to get)
Wileyfox Storm (am reading great things about these phones!)
Vodafone Smart Ultra 6 (outstanding phone for Vodafone users)
Microsoft Lumia 640 (I loved everything about my Lumia phone except the rubbish FM radio)
Do you still have an old-fashioned TV in the corner of the room? Not everyone does, but we still enjoy relaxing in the rocking chair or lying on the sofa and watching Netflix on the big screen. To do that you may need a streaming device (see 2.)
2. A streaming device
As a member of the Netflix #StreamTeam, I given an Apple TV so I could watch Netflix on the big telly. But again there are other options, such as Chromecast and they all mean that you can view almost anything you have on your tablet, on your TV.
3. A tablet/phone stand
Great for watching Netflix in the kitchen! There's a mind blowing choice of typical bifold stands like the one above, but I actually prefer this one - it has an internal speaker, which enhances the volume and quality of the sound, at a great price too.
4. Wireless headphones
Just brilliant for when you are watching Netflix and there's lots of other distracting noise going on, but can be grotesquely expensive. But unless you're watching opera, this pair from Sound Blaster for less than £40 will do the trick perfectly well.
5. Portable charger
You wouldn't want the battery juice to run dry at a crucial moment in your favourite show, now would you? No specific recommendations here - I have one that attaches to my keyring, but it's not very powerful. If you need a better one, maybe check out this list.
Disclosure: I have received free Netflix streaming, and a streaming device as part of my membership of the Netflix Stream Team. All opinions expressed in this post are my own.
