What I want for Christmas, a message from Smiley to An Taoiseach (the Irish Prime Minister) Originally posted December 17th 2010:
Dear Mr Cowen,
I am a 14 year old girl with cerebral palsy, and I’m writing to ask if you can make sure that I keep my Home Support, which my Mammy has been told is going to stop shortly. It’s for three hours on a Sunday morning and it only happens once a month, but I really enjoy it. You see my Mam is very busy on Sunday mornings so normally I don't get to do anything very entertaining.
But when I get Home Support, I have a lovely time :D Once I'm up and showered, my support worker takes me out in my wheelchair. Usually we go to the Botanic Gardens, I love watching all the visitors and spotting the squirrels and other animals.
Then we go to the cafe and I have a large slice of chocolate cake.
It's not much and when my Mammy reads about the money that the Government has wasted it seems very unfair that I might have to do without this little monthly treat.
Best wishes and I hope you have a Happy Christmas.

I really really hope you get to keep this, for you Smiley and for your Mum. You look gorgeous in that photo and I am looking forward to seeing you soon:) Jen xxx
ReplyDeleteDear Smiley,
ReplyDeleteI do hope lots of ministers read this letter of yours....read it and weep.
You are a lovely girl who is not asking for much.
I would love to ask a certain Mr F how he feels about this when he's on his expensive golf course this |Sunday morning at 8.30am.
Or maybe we'll send it to him and he can put it on his wall...in his jail cell.
To your mammy: this is disgraceful. SHAME ON THEM.

Smiley, I hope that you get your home support with your lovely visits to the gardens and your yummy slice of chocolate cake. You are a beautiful young lady who deserves the very best that life has to offer and so does your mammy! Big hugs!
ReplyDelete@jencull and Jazzygal - thanks for your lovely comments and thanks also to everyone else who has taken an interest: it's made me realise that I should try and see if this can be retained for Smiley and the other children who benefit from this service
ReplyDeleteI hate some of the terrible decisions "the system" makes. Unbelievable. I so hope that Smiley gets her wish!!

@Lora - I hope she does as well, especially the cake
ReplyDeleteI hope, for both your sakes, that the support stays in place!

Oh this is so heartfelt. I can only imagine how happy it must make her. And how it must be breaking your heart that she may have to go without. Please let us know if there is anyway to help out, a petition or anything for example. I really hope Smiley gets her wish!
ReplyDeleteMay you always have the garden and the cake. Here's hoping your leaders will realize how important this is for families.
